Transparent Pricing

Our fees are based on your pet’s size, and you’re only charged for the number of nights they spend with us. No need to rush for check-in or check out; you can schedule drop off or pick up at your convenience during our office hours. Our rates are all-inclusive, and exercise for dogs is part of our pricing. We offer discounts when boarding multiple pets in the same suite.

Please use plastic bags, containers or original bag. We also strongly recommend that you provide enough to allow for extra feeding should you be unable to pick your pet up on time.

Due to Salmonella and other risks, we will not feed a raw diet or take any pet that has been on a raw diet. This may include certain freeze-dried foods or additives created from raw food.

MEDICATION ADMINISTRATION

Must be labeled with name of pet, name of medication (or vitamin), the units, dosage, and provided in a separate container. Nothing can be brough in pre-mixed with their feeding — we strongly recommend providing the original medication bottle/packaging.

Cannot require “safe” handling or gloves. Cannot be an injection.

SENIOR PETS

We are delighted to provide care for senior pets, considering any animal over the age of 7 years as a senior companion. It’s important to note that age can affect pets differently; what might be considered old for one may not be the same for another. To ensure a pleasant stay, senior pets must be in good health and condition. This includes maintaining a healthy body weight/mass, stability in movement, and the ability to be mobile without assistance from our staff. We reserve the right to make informed decisions regarding the admission of dogs into our kennel based on these factors. If you’re unsure about your pet’s eligibility, scheduling a visit allows us to assess their condition and determine whether they are fit for a stay in our facility.

However, please note that we cannot accept toys filled with perishable food or treats, like peanut butter. While we will do our best to return these items to you, we cannot take responsibility if they are lost or damaged during your pet’s stay.

Surprisingly, it’s often the owners who experience greater stress or emotional reactions. Pets are incredibly attuned to their owners’ emotions, and they may pick up on this anxiety as they’re brought in. Consequently, many pets start to relax once their owners are out of sight. The most significant anxiety we encounter typically involves pets entering a new environment for the first time. It’s natural for them to feel unsure, which can last for about a day. However, by the following morning, they’re often settling into the routine. While young dogs tend to adapt more quickly, older ones can also adjust comfortably once they become familiar with the kennel’s scents and sounds. Once this familiarity sets in, they often return as if they’re reuniting with old friends. Remember, nearly all pets relish returning to a place where they’ve had a positive experience.
Water is always available to your pets 24/7 in our kennel. We use generously-sized buckets to ensure your pet’s hydration needs are met. These buckets are filled with fresh water in the morning and again in the evening. Our attentive staff continuously monitors water levels to ensure they never drop below the halfway mark. However, it’s common for your pet to appear extra thirsty upon returning home from their kennel stay. This behavior often stems from your pet’s instinct to re-establish their presence in your home. Additionally, the excitement of reuniting with you and the journey back home can trigger their thirst. This behavior isn’t limited to water; you may notice similar actions with their toys, beds, or treats. Most pet owners primarily observe increased water drinking. If this behavior concerns you, consider filling the dish halfway until your pet fully settles back into their routine. If you frequently travel and use our kennel services, you can even anticipate and manage this behavior more effectively.
At Sundance Kennels, the vaccinations we require are an essential component of ensuring the safety and well-being of all pets in our care. We maintain a strict policy without exceptions because we prioritize the health of every animal entrusted to us. Even one unvaccinated pet can pose a risk by potentially introducing preventable health issues. By Pennsylvania state law, all pets over the age of 6 months must be vaccinated against rabies. Failure to comply may result in fines for pet owners. Our shot requirements are designed to provide you with peace of mind when leaving your pets in our care. As a pet owner, it’s your responsibility to provide us with records of your pet’s vaccinations. These records are your confidential information, stored with your veterinarian. We respect your privacy and do not access these files without your permission. Handling the vaccination records for hundreds of pets is a complex task, and we understand that you’re primarily concerned about your own pet’s well-being. As a courtesy, we can remind you when your pet requires vaccinations during their stay with us. However, it remains your responsibility to ensure they receive the necessary shots. Arriving without proper documentation can cause delays for everyone, including yourself, as we cannot admit pets without proof in hand. If you prefer, many veterinarians are willing to fax vaccination records to us. We recommend making a follow-up call before your arrival to confirm that we’ve received the records and everything is in order.

Kennel cough is highly contagious and spreads rapidly among dogs sharing the same environment, hence its nickname. If your dog is sociable and regularly interacts with other dogs through activities like dog walks, park visits, dog shows, kennel stays, pet store outings, training classes, or grooming appointments, it’s wise to take precautions and have them vaccinated. Today’s vaccines are effective against most known strains, although kennel cough can mutate easily, occasionally affecting vaccinated pets. Nonetheless, vaccination is currently our best defense, which is why we require it. In our commitment to pet safety, we go further by requiring vaccination every six months. This decision is rooted in our experience showing dogs and consultations with our veterinarian. As with all vaccinations, we recommend discussing the timing with your vet to ensure your pet’s protection. Please note that the kennel mandates a two-week minimum interval for all shots, excluding the day of arrival, before you can bring your pet in.

Many customers wonder why we insist on removing all collars during their pet’s stay. This practice is a crucial safety measure we take to ensure your pet’s well-being. While we strive to provide a safe and healthy environment, it’s impossible for us to be everywhere at all times. Our runs are constructed using chain link fencing, and while the design minimizes risks, there’s still a slight possibility that a collar’s tag, ornament, or buckle could become entangled. Although such incidents have never occurred at our kennel, we prioritize your pet’s safety and prefer not to take any chances. To identify your pet during their stay, we utilize an ID card attached to their run. This card contains a comprehensive description of your pet. Once your pet is placed in their designated run, they will remain there throughout their stay. However, if the need ever arises to move them, the ID card will accompany them, ensuring we always have the necessary information to care for your beloved pet.
Safety is our first concern. The brief duration of your pet’s stay doesn’t provide enough time for us to fully assess their behavior patterns. While dogs are often considered pack animals, the dynamics of forming a pack can be complex. Some dogs may assume dominant roles, while others may be more submissive. When these dynamics collide, conflicts can arise, potentially leading to injuries. We’re unwilling to expose your pet to such risks during their short stay with us. Our health concern centers around preventing cross-contamination among pets. Allowing dogs to run together in a communal area increases the likelihood of exposure to each other’s urine and feces, posing a health risk. While we require proper immunization and ensure the health of all animals in our care upon arrival, there’s always a chance that one dog may carry bacteria that are normal for them but not necessarily for others. By providing spacious, individual runs, we minimize this risk to the best of our ability. Our private runs are generously sized and provide ample space for exercise, even for the most active dogs. If you believe your dog requires additional social stimulation during their stay, we recommend arranging playtimes with our staff. This allows your pet to enjoy the best of both worlds: personal space for relaxation and supervised social interactions when desired.
We do not accept or provide raw diets for dogs. Our decision is rooted in our commitment to safety, aiming to minimize the potential risk of Salmonella to both our dedicated staff and the other pets entrusted to our care.
